By Aditya Shah
Big Momma’s
House 2 is a heavyweight hit comedy that’s loads of fun for the family!
The movie is all
about a person known as Malcolm who was fired from the F.B.I., and goes back
undercover as big momma - a slick-talking, slam-dunking southern granny with attitude to spare! Now this granny must play
nanny to three demanding children and meanwhile find out information about their father’s work. The movie is about what
he does to complete this most outrageous assignment ever!
How the story goes about
Big momma was an
undercover agent who had gathered a lot of information about Mr. Fullers, and
now he had started spying on him, and finds out in the end that he was threatened to do all this as if Mr.Fuller would have
not done it the bad guys would kill his family. Enjoy the movie!
Lage Raho Munna Bhai is a 2006 Bollywood film by Vinod Chopra Productions which is the sequel to the 2003 film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. The recurring cast includes Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. Vidya Balan and Dia Mirza also star in the film.
Munna Bhai (Sanjay
Dutt) falls in love with the voice of the Radio Jockey Jahnvi (Vidya Balan). He is finally given the chance to meet her when
the radio station announces a trivia contest concerning the life and beliefs of Mahatma Gandhi. He formulates a clever scheme and wins the contest. However, in the process Jahnvi is led to believe that Munna Bhai is
a professor of history and subsequently asks him to present a lecture on Gandhi to a community of senior citizens which she
takes care of at her home, Second Innings.
Munna decides that
the only way out of this situation is to use the days prior to the lecture to learn as much as he can about the Mahatma. He
puts himself through an intensive period of study in a library devoted to the life and works of Gandhi. It is during this
period of study that the image of Gandhi begins to appear to Munna Bhai. With Gandhi on his side, Munna not only wins Jhanvi's
heart, but through a radio show also teaches others how to solve their problems using Gandhi's principles. Soon, however,
Munna finds his own life falling apart until he learns to practice what he preaches. The problems he faces lead him to cultivate
a new life based upon Gandhism, particularly non-violence and truth.
In our opinion we
feel that this movie is to be watched by all as it involves the willpower and determination of Sanjay Dutt.It teaches us the
practices of gandhiji like non-violence and truthfulness. This makes us into a better human being. So go watch it!
MULTIPLEXES:
The future of Indian Cinema
- Avnish Barjatya
Multiplexes have come like a storm to India. All metropolitan cities and many other smaller cities and towns
have multiplexes today. The tickets might be more pricy than a single screen theatre but they have more facilities and
better service.
What is a multiplex? It is a theatre with more than one screen. This means that they can screen multiple
movies at one time. However, it isn't as if multiplexes have just come in recently. Chennai (then Madras) had
the Devi complex and the Diamond/Sapphire/Emerald complex over three decades ago while Mumbai had the Satyam/Shivam/Sundaram
complex at about the same time. Multiplexes have only become more popular today and the part of the city audiences,
who in the film business are called classes, go to multiplexes today.
Why are so many multiplexes working successfully today? Well, as I said before, they have more facilities
and better service. Many multiplexes have also got into deals with entertainment centers which help attract more people.
Single screen cinemas are now finding it hard to survive nowadays. This is because: firstly, with most classes off to
multiplexes, a large part of the viewers aren't coming to these theatres. Secondly, since these theatres only have one
screen, they can invest in only one or two movies at one time. Nowadays, many movies don't do very well and if that
theatre invests in the wrong movie, it is a loss for them and very few people will come to see the movie. Multiplexes
however are not facing a loss because they're screening multiple movies at one time and at least one of them should do well.
Multiplexes are also charged less entertainment tax than the single screen theatres.
Today, small screen theatres are being replaced by multiplexes. However, every multiplex has to have certain
requirements. Maharashtra has the most multiplexes: both those that are working and those that are under renovation.
It is followed by West Bengal, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. The Maharashtra government asks for a minimum of 3 screens with
1000 seats in the whole multiplex, from every multiplex. Some companies that have built and/or are currently constructing
multiplexes are Pentamedia, the Essel group, Adlabs, Runwal, Shringar Films, PVR group and Inox Leisure and Cinemax.

The 21st of December happened to be the end of our school exams. A
few friends and I went to see a movie to celebrate this glorious day. We decided that we would go to watch the English movie
“King Kong”. It was said to be a thrilling, ‘edge-of-the-seat’ kind of movie which would keep you
spooked right till the end.
We weren’t
disappointed. Even though the movie was over 3 hours long, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
It’s
the story of an actress who is offered a role in a film by a director who wants to make his movie on an unchartered island
called Skull
Island. He gets a famous writer to write the script, and illegally boards a small ship. However once his crew realizes that they are being asked to drive the ship
towards an unknown island, they try their best to turn back. But it’s too late. Their ship crashes into a rock near
Skull Island.
While the
sailors try to repair the ship, the film director and some of his crew go onto
the island to shoot his film. But they meet the local inhabitants who kill one of them, and they return to the ship. However
the actress is kidnapped and given to the king of those inhabitants – Kong, a giant gorilla. The rest of the crew try
to find her. They encounter many dangers on the island; they meet dinosaurs, giant spiders, reptiles of different sizes and
other dangerous and disgusting animals.
Meanwhile,
the actress runs away from King Kong and tries to find the ship. However she gets into trouble and King Kong saves her. She
discovers that Kong isn’t a bad creature after all. However the crew finds her and they capture King Kong and take him
to New York. There Kong breaks free and wrecks havoc. The end is indeed tragic.
The movie
keeps everyone interested right from the word “go”. However this isn’t a movie for the faint-hearted. The
disgusting animals and the way so many are killed are very horrific and can give nightmares to many.
The performances
are first rate, and Peter Jackson, the Academy award-winning director of the film, does a splendid job of the direction, just
as he did in “The Lord of the Rings” series. I rate this movie 9.5 out of 10. E.L.S. writer Yash Agarwal saw the
movie as well and enjoyed it too.
In Bollywood, the movie “Vaah! Life ho to aisi” released on the
23rd of December, 2005. It’s the story of a young man, Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) who has many nephews
to worry about and all of them are under his care. One day he has an accident and dies. Lord Yama (a modern Yama who wears
the latest clothes and drives a car through the air, who loves whisky and gets emotional very quickly) takes him to heaven.
However Aditya pleads with him to let him see his family for some time. Yama (Sanjay Dutt) gives him 7 days.
Back
on earth, Aditya’s step-uncle, his business partner and others are plotting against his family. A tantrik called Sapera
(Arshad Warsi) gives special powers to Aditya and one more boy. With these powers, Aditya sorts out all the problems. Yama
is so happy with him that he grants him life again.
The movie
has been made with kids in mind. On the whole I found it interesting and funny in some parts and boring in others. The performances
are good, and the direction is also well done. The music is nice and some tracks are very good indeed.
I
would rate this movie 6.5 out of 10.

Big B Gives All A Scare
by Avnish
Barjatya
There are times
when the entire nation comes together to pray for the health of the people it loves the most. And this was just what took
place when Amitabh Bachchan was taken to the Escort's Heart Institute in New Delhi and then to Mumbai's Leelavati hospital on the 28th of November.
It all started
in Lucknow where Big B had gone to attend a function to mark the 98th birth anniversary
of his late father, the famous poet, Harivansh Rai Bachchan. It was here that Amitabh Bachchan began to feel a pain below
his left rib. The family, not wanting to take any risks, decided to fly to Delhi,
fearing a heart problem. He was flown to Delhi
on a chartered plane and was admitted into Escort's Heart Institute.
Amitabh was discharged
the same day, after the doctors ruled out any heart problems However it was discovered that the pain emanated from the stomach.
Further research indicated colitis (inflammation or swelling of some part of the small intestine.) He was discharged from
Escort's and boarded a chartered flight to Mumbai along with son Abhishek Bachchan and family
friend Amar Singh. He was taken into the Intensive Care Unit at Leelavati
Hospital, Mumbai, at 10:30pm.
However, if something
big occurs, you can be sure that rumours will make it even bigger – and the rumour flying around was that he had cancer.
The Siddhi Vinayak temple in Mumbai was crowded with people praying to God for Bachchan's recovery.
However his condition
wasn't so bad. Surgery did take place. A three and a half hour long surgery to remove a 4-inch long portion of his small intestine
that had one perforation. After it was over he was kept in the ICU because there is always the danger of complications after
such surgeries.
He was asked to
stay at the hospital for a few more days. However, he is perfectly fine and there is no need to get anxious about him. He
has been advised to slow down his schedule and do fewer films. We wish him a speedy recovery.

HARRY POTTER HYPE
There has been a craze all over India over the last two weeks – why? Why because
on the 18th of November was the day of the release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This fourth movie of the ‘Harry Potter’
series was greatly welcomed in cinemas all over India (especially in the metropolitan cities) with houseful shows throughout
the weekend. I just managed to get tickets on the 20th and I went to watch the movie.
This movie, based on the fourth book of the same name of the ‘Harry Potter’
series written by J.K.Rowling is based on Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. Hogwarts
school is hosting the triwizard tournament which is a competition held between a student each from the three major
magical schools in Europe. However, some evil has approached Hogwarts and Harry has unexpectedly been chosen to participate
in the tournament even though he isn’t old enough. He has to go through three dangerous tasks and finally he comes face
to face with his nemesis: the evil, and now even deadlier Lord Voldemort.
The movie was fantastic and kept the viewers interested right from the start. The
three tasks in particular were very, very well shot. The exciting tasks and climax of the movie were its highlights. The performances
were wonderful. Daniel Radcliffe portrays Harry Potter with élan. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson who portray Ron and Hermione
respectively also put in fantastic performances. Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, Tom Felton, Katie Lueng, James
and Oliver Phelps and all others lend excellent support.
Mike Newell has done a fantastic job as the director. He has not only done his task
commendably but has also got the best out of the young teenagers.
I really enjoyed this film and recommend that everyone should see it. Critics
all over the world are saying that this is the best Harry Potter movie yet.
In other news, Jackie Chan is coming to India to watch the premiere of
his movie The Myth that also stars Mallika Sherawat. It is believed that Jackie wanted to come to the Indian premiere
of this movie.
Javed Akhtar, the famous lyricist and writer has been invited to speak on ‘Secularism
in Indian Cinema’ by the prestigious University of Chicago in Chicago, U.S.A.
Boman Irani has injured his foot seriously in Bangkok while shooting for a film.
The famous comedian has come back to India for surgery.
Can you answer this question?
Which was the first film to receive a Filmfare award for best motion picture?
Ans: Do Bigha Zameen

NEW RELEASES
Everybody says that the best time to release a movie in India is the Diwali-Eid period. It is. For various reasons.
Firstly, most Hindus don’t watch too many movies during the pre-diwali
period, as they are busy with diwali cleaning, house painting, wrapping and sending
diwali gifts, and different religious ceremonies, so they just don’t have the time. For Muslims, this is the month of
ramzan, which ends on eid (which is just about the same time as diwali). During ramzan, the Muslims are forbidden to watch
any movies.
So, during this time, most Indian cine-goers do not go to the cinema.
However, when the Hindu New Year arrives, the Hindus relax and enjoy a trip to
the movies as they no longer have any major diwali duties. Around the same time, eid is celebrated, and this marks the end
of ramzan. With almost all people wanting to see a movie after a long time, cinema houses are crowded !
It is even better if the New Year starts in the middle of the week. Usually, films
are released on Fridays. However, in India,
films can be released on the diwali new year, so they are watched right throughout the holidays as well as the weekend.
Last year four movies were released on the diwali new year – Veer-Zaara,
Aitraaz, Naach and the revived Mughal-e-Azam (in colour). Of the four, three benefited from the extra
days while one (Naach) was rejected. It must be remembered that a film does well due to its story, creation
and sometimes star cast but full houses at the premiere shows don’t guarantee a successful run. The diwali release just
gives a movie a better head start, that’s all. However, a good opening is also important.
The three other films did extremely well with Veer-Zaara doing the best, collecting over seven crore rupees in its first week.
This year, not four but three movies were released. All the movies were by big
banners. One was Shaadi No. 1, directed by the famous director David Dhawan. Priyadarshan directed both the other two
movies. They were Kyun Ki and Garam Masala. All three were expected
to do very well. All had star casts – Shaadi No.1 starring Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, etc.
Kyun Ki starred Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor while Garam Masala starred Akshay Kumar and John Abraham.
However, right from the day of their release it was obvious which of the three
films would do the best. Garam Masala made a flying start with first-rate collections. The diwali opening gave it a much
better start and, so far, this has had the best opening in the year, beating the opening of the biggest hit of the year
so far i.e. Bunty aur Bubbly. Garam Masala earned a whopping Rs. 9,65,73,604 in its first week.
While Garam Masala got off to such a good start, the other two films were not
appreciated. Critics said that the problem with Shaadi No.1 was that its basic story idea was similar to recent hits like
Masti and No Entry and the story had just become too repetitive. They also said that Kyun Ki would not
be liked because it is just too depressing for the audience’s liking.
